Relive the Past

The true beginning of our country’s first gold rush began not far from our luxury cabins. Helen and nearby Dahlonega were both hot spots for striking it rich in the early 1800s. You and your group can learn all about the exciting Georgia gold rush by visiting the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site which is located in the 1836 Lumpkin County Courthouse. Here you will learn about Georgia’s exciting past. Did you know, for instance, that a U.S Branch Mint opened in Dahlonega in 1836? In fact, over six million dollars in gold was minted here. You will find a set of these coins within the museum, as well as a gold nugget that weights more than five ounces! And once the rain lets up a bit, you and your family can enjoy touring the rest of the town. Dahlonega is loaded with culture and history through a variety of exhibits, gold panning opportunities, shopping, and dining.

In addition to the gold rush, there is so much more history to be discovered near your cabins.
