I had the privilege of venturing to the mountains to stay in the cabins in Helen Ga with my wife and we had such a glorious time experiencing wildlife, outdoor adventures, and some amazing fine dining cuisine. After the trip we looked back and saw that it really was our second honeymoon being that it was away from our children for an extended period of time and I was unplugged from my cell phone or any other communication.  This gave me the chance to engage with my wife like I had not done in a while. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We live in such a rat race and it makes it very difficult to be intentional with others.  I saw this very clearly on our vacation.  When I would wake up in the mornings I was able to focus on reading a book and going deep into meditation.  This kick started my day and brought a whole other level of excitement to being with my wife and enjoying all of our activities. It was to the point that I felt like a kid again with no worries and relished the clean air and natural wonder of the Georgia mountains.  We felt like we were back in Hawaii riding horses, making camp fires, and fishing for our meal.  There really is something to be said about getting away from the city and leaving your cell phones in the glove box.  It allows space for concentrated communication and a dedication to healing your own mind from interruptions and constant multi-tasking.

An Incredible Dinner

Because of the advice of a friend we met at the cabins, we were able to make an excellent descision for our Saturday night dinner in the mountains.  They suggested we go to Bernie’s Restaurant in Sautee, Ga.  Not only was the environment very homey, but the waitress was incredibly attentive and kind.  It felt like we were in our own home being served by a close family member and eating the most delicious and fresh meal.  I decided to have the Steak Au Poivre which is a tenderloin rolled in crushed pepper, sautéed in butter, and cream bordelaise.  It was nothing short of fantastic and believe me I wanted to lick my plate when I was finished.  My wife enjoyed the Vegetarian Tasting course that included fresh and seasonal vegetables.  She ate each bite slowly and I could tell that she really enjoyed the experience.

Under Promise And Over Deliver

This restaurant came highly recommended and our night of dining exceeded our expectations.  This was not only because of cuisine and setting, but even more so because of the people that served us with kindness and made us feel very much at home.  By the end of the night we were conversing with the cooks, waitresses, and felt like we were part of the family.  Not only did they explain to us where their food came from and how healthy it was, but opened our eyes to what the little town of Suatee offers in regards to art, adventure, and quint shops.

The view from inside the restaurant looking out into the back pasture is really eye picturesque and it reveals a beautiful landscape and an abundance of nature in the north Georgia mountains.  There were flowers and large oak trees budding with a few cows grazing and horses roaming in the green fields.  It was a sight to see as we ate the fresh organic produce and laughed at our past memories and times with our children.  We will make a plan to go back for hiking in Helen, Ga and will most definitely choose this location for our fine dining. If you ever had thoughts that there might not be any fine dining close to the cabins in Helen Ga, then Bernie’s will make you think again.

Hiking Yona Mountain

We had the opportunity on the following morning to head out from our cabin and hike Yona Mountain.  It was the highlight on this trip especially because of the beautiful Spring time weather.  If you have never had the opportunity to explore this location and get after a physical challenge I would recommend this unbelievable mountain climb.  There are a few stream crossings and some serious inclines, but overall it is a solid three hour climb that is capped off by the view at the top.  If you are serious about adventure and want to eat great food then a trip to the cabins in Helen Ga is the way to go.

Are you ready to put your hiking and dining weekend on the calendar?
