As you work on planning your vacation to a North Georgia mountains cabin, you have probably been researching where you can go to get the best views of waterfalls in the Helen area. Have you added Amicalola Falls to your vacation “must-see” list? This spectacular waterfall is truly a sight to behold and because of the many things to do and see in Amicalola Falls State Park and the surrounding area, you can make a day trip of your adventure to the falls in Dawsonville, GA.

Visiting Amicalola Falls State Park

Planning a day trip away from your cabin rental to Amicalola Falls is easy as it is not far away from the Helen area. The 829-acre Georgia state park is filled with gorgeous scenery, plants, and wildlife. It is because of the incredible views and numerous hiking trails that Amicalola Falls State Park is one of the most popular parks of its kind within the state of Georgia. The falls themselves are 729 feet high, making Amicalola Falls the tallest cascade in all of the Southeastern United States. In fact, the falls are considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of Georgia.

You will have your pick of how you would like to view the thundering waters with your choices being a relatively easy accessible pathway to a challenging trail that includes staircases. Should you decide to take the more difficult path, you can join the park’s “Canyon Climbers Club”. When you’re in the mood for some exercise and fresh mountain air you can opt to follow an 8.5-mile trail that leads from the park to Springer Mountain. This mountain is famous for being the Southern end of the well-known Appalachian trail which is 2,175 miles long. For those who would like to enjoy the sights and sounds of the park without walking so far, numerous trails are far shorter and can be enjoyed.

When you first arrive at Amicalola Falls State Park, you should make it a point to stop at the visitor center. You will want to take a look at the maps of the various trails within the park to determine how you would prefer to access the falls or which trails will best suit your desires and personal stamina. In addition, the visitor center is home to various live animals for you to enjoy looking at. It should be noted that Amicalola Falls is extremely busy during peak leaf season during the autumn and it may be preferable to visit during the weekdays at this time.
