Georgia is home to the number one Christmas town in the US – Helen. According to a new study from mydatingadviser.com, Helen has ranked the first spot out of 152 towns to celebrate Christmas. It is also in the second spot when it comes to Most Christmas Activities and the fourth spot in Best For Food.
Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Miss Spending the Holidays in Helen
- Christmas decor everywhere
The Bavarian town is filled with wreaths and artist-decorated Christmas trees up for auction at the Festival of Trees (unfortunately canceled for this year but hopefully will resume in 2022). Don’t fret though, there will still be plenty of things to do in Helen, GA. The German-inspired town is a great backdrop for a picture-perfect holiday making it Instagrammable! It is like walking into a fairy tale.
- There are holiday festivities in the downtown area.
It starts with the annual lighting of the village on November 26, 2021, at Riverside Park. This kicks off the holiday season! Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be there. There are also musical performances.
Helen Christmas Parade is another Christmas celebration not to miss in downtown Helen. This year it will be held on December 11 and of course, Santa Claus will also be there! Note, expect plenty of candies 🙂 There will also be s’mores and a bonfire after the parade.
On the last weekend of November and the first weekend of December, there is a traditional Geman event called Christkindlmarkt. There are booths where people can shop for sweet treats, gifts, and decorations.
On December 4, 2021, there is a Christmas in the Mountains Lighted Parade in the nearby town of Cleveland. There will be musical performances, lighting of the community tree, food, and so much more!
You can also head to the Helen Arts & Heritage Center for the Mistletoe Market from Dec 4 to Dec 5, 2021, for handmade gifts and other things you might be interested in buying.
If you are sticking around longer for the New Year’s Eve celebration, there is the Dropping of the Edelweiss event which features hors d’oeuvres, midnight champagne toast, and party favors.
- Remember the places where movies have been filmed
If you have watched Christmas movies like The Christmas Love Letter, you will see familiar sights in downtown Helen in the movie like the carriage ride through downtown.
- Ride the Georgia Mountain Coaster at night while watching the Christmas lights
The first alpine coaster in the area, it is a great place to watch the view of Helen, GA at night.
