A majority of the human race is an active bunch.  We can not stay cooped up in an office somewhere without feeling an occasional restlessness.  We need to get out and do something. For some of us with tighter schedules it may be only a weekend getaway, where as for others it can be extended to a few days or more.  Whatever escape your busy schedule allows, the Helen GA attractions are endless.
Panning for Gold in Georgia
You can experience a taste of what it must have been like during America’s gold rush by panning for gold yourself. At Dukes Creek Gold and Ruby Mines there is no charge for parking or admission and you can pan just like one of the old time prospectors.  If you look hard you can uncover rubies, sapphires, amethysts, emeralds or more, and trained staff will be available to help you evaluate your finds for cutting and setting.
Once a part of the Loud Mine which supplied gold bullion to the Dahlonega Mint, Gold’n Gem Grubbin opened its mine to the public in 1984 and allows visitors to try their hand at placer mining. Which is the type of gold-mining associated with streams and rivers that carry gold that was washed away from the main vein up in the hills by natural erosion.
