The North Georgia landscape holds many scenic attractions. Choosing where to go when you stay at cabins in Georgia can present a real challenge. The next time you visit the Appalachian foothills, visit these top three scenic attractions.
Track Rock Gap
The Chattahoochee National Forest is quite large and you may have a hard time deciding where to go in the forest. For a look back in time, visit the Track Rock Gap. On this site, the ancient Native American tribes of Union County carved petroglyphs into the soapstone boulders at Track Rock Gap. Experts estimate that the figures and inscriptions visible today were made more than 1,000 years ago. No one is exactly sure which tribe made the carvings, though many experts believe the Cherokee tribe made the carvings.
Try to visit Track Rock Gap during the morning or evening hours as bright sunlight makes the carvings more difficult to see. The carvings include human footprints, animal tracks, and human-like stick figures. Visit the Track Rock Gap website before you visit to see previews of the figures, which makes it easier to find when you visit the boulders. Track Rock Gap is located near Blairsville, GA.
A Day on the Farm
For some good old country fun visit, Burt’s Farm, a one-day fall vacation very close to the Georgia cabin rentals. The farm is located near Dahlonega, on Highway 52.
The farm only opens during the fall and offers a wide variety of fun activities for families. Take a hayride around the farm on a scenic trail providing excellent views of the fall foliage. Choose the perfect jack-o-lantern from the sea of ripe, orange pumpkins. In addition to pumpkins, Burt’s Farms grows every type of winter squash and gourds.
In the barn store, pick up fresh pumpkin pies, candied popcorn, and other goodies to take back to your cabin. Burt’s Farm does not allow pets, so you’ll have to leave your four-legged friends behind.
Grape Escape
The north Georgia mountain region has become known around the country for its wine region. More than a dozen wineries are dotting the southern edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest.
