So … you have a bit of a sweet tooth, huh? When staying at Cedar Creek Cabins, Helen, Georgia and the surrounding region will quell your appetite for something tasty and sugary.
Helen, GA, and its surrounding areas are great for whitewater rafting, hiking, and sightseeing. But what you might not realize is that these areas are also rife with possibilities when it comes to confections, ice cream, and other sweet treats that will bring back memories of your candy-loving childhood.
To help you zero in on one of these places that will satisfy your need for something sweet, we’ll take a look at some of the more popular (and unique) bakeries, candy shops, and ice cream parlors. If you have time and/or a big appetite, perhaps you’ll find time to visit more than one. And we wouldn’t blame you one bit.
Sweets-R-Land
The owner of this Helen ice cream shop might just have the oddest sense of humor you’ll find in the entire state of Georgia. Offering a wide variety of ice cream flavors, plus coffee, freshly squeezed lemonade, funnel cakes, and even banana bread espresso, this shop has something for everyone.
It’s the unusual ice cream flavors, however, that the owners come up with that often draw in customers. Notable examples are their “vegetarian-flavored” and “pink pug placenta.” To find out what these flavors might really entail, it’s best to stop by and speak with the friendly workers. According to the owner, you might even be able to get some free water and take your dog inside (we told you he had a sense of humor).
Ain’t B’s Bakery and Cafe
When you drive up to Ain’t B’s, located in Sautee Nacoochee, the first thing you’ll notice is how homey it looks, complete with an old wooden fence surrounding it. It simply looks inviting, before you’ve even gotten out of your car.
As you walk inside and view its charming, down-home ambiance, your olfactory senses will swell thanks to the aroma of all the sweetness this little bakery has to offer. Ain’t B’s is most famous for being the “home of the original 17-inch Cinnamon Roll Pie,” but there are plenty of other fantastic items to be found, ranging from fried pies, cheesecakes, and cookies to jams, jellies, and their homemade “Cinnamon Pecan Caramel” sauce. Is your mouth watering just thinking about it?
The Fudge Factory
There are so many sweets in this Dahlonega, GA candy shop that you can almost satisfy your sweet tooth by simply walking in the door and getting a big whiff of their wonderful confections. You pick your poison (so to speak, of course): fudge, caramel, toffee, pralines, brittles, truffles, etc. To give you an idea of the specifics, you can pick up a 20-ounce fudge heart, cashew nuggets, butter brickle toffee, pretzels dipped in chocolate and covered with either M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces, peanut brittles, and handmade dark chocolate or milk chocolate truffles.
And for those of you who don’t want to go overboard, The Fudge Factory also offers sugar-free items, including chocolate almond bark and chocolate caramel pecan patties. We dare you to try walking out of this store empty-handed.
Hofer’s of Helen
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hofer’s has become a staple of the Helen, GA experience. Voted as the Best Bakery in the Atlanta/NE Georgia area a few years back, they show an excellence of quality that is nearly unmatched in the surrounding region.
Inside the bakery, you’ll get about as much of a German experience as one business can muster (they even have German magazines for purchase). Hofer’s offers a variety of baked goods, from delicious cakes, pies, and donuts, all the way to their Bavarian pretzels.
You’ll also find a variety of authentic German breads, french rolls, sunflower bread, five-seed sourdough bread, and a wide variety of other tasty treats.
When staying in some of the premier, North Georgia, luxury cabins, Helen, Georgia could not be sweeter!
