The Helen, GA, area has a long and rich history that stretches back to the earliest days of American settlement.  Many don’t know this, but it was even the site of the first major gold strike in North America!  It was later overshadowed by the bigger California and Yukon strikes, but Helen has truly made its mark on America. Experience Helen Georgia Oktoberfest!

When it came time to redesign the town, in the 60s, Helen decided to honor that heritage, and especially the proud contributions of the Germanic peoples to America, by building a town inspired by 19th Century Bavarian Alpine architecture.

Since then, we’ve proudly called ourselves the best little German town in America, and we mean it!  And there’s no better way to experience that for yourself than to visit Helen during our annual Oktoberfest celebration – the biggest and longest in the world!Royal Suite

Helen Delivers An Oktoberfest You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

1 – The Biggest Oktoberfest In The World

We aren’t kidding.  In Helen, Oktoberfest begins in mid-September, and doesn’t end until Halloween.  That’s roughly six weeks of nonstop German festivities, traditions, gastrophones, wines, sausages, plus of course… beer.  And lots of it.

Our annual parade kicking off the celebration is world-renowned, featuring most of the town and the surrounding areas.  It’s less a parade and more a movable party, one which eventually winds its way over to the Hellen Festhalle, which becomes Oktoberfest Central -and primary mead-hall – for the next several weeks.

2 – The Best German Food This Side Of The Alps

Oktoberfest isn’t just about beer, even if it sometimes seems like it.  It’s also a celebration of the best in German / Bavarian cuisine, and we have a selection of chefs culled from around Europe to make it happen!

Whether you visit the Bodensee and its world-class imported chef, or the Old Heidenberg, or just stopping for a snack at Hofer’s, you won’t find better German food anyway.  We’re talking sausages, schnitzel, potatoes, sauerkraut, and all those hearty goodies that boring magazines tell you to avoid.

When you come to Helen for Oktoberfest, eat up!

3 – Amazing Fall Foliage

Located as we are in the foothills of the Appalachians, Helen is surrounded by some of the most mind-blowing natural landscapes still unspoiled by civilization’s progress.  While Helen provides a great natural escape any time of year, fall is especially magical.

The variety of state parks and natural attractions around the Helen area make it as must-see for fans of the season changes.  Most especially, Unicoi State Park -and its centerpiece, Lake Unicoi – is praised by visitors from around the world.  On a clear day, the still lake reflects the rainbow of fall colors like something you’d normally only see in a painting.

These are the sorts of views you’ll remember for a lifetime, and given the rush of technology, how much longer do you have to see them at all?

4 – Arts In The Park

Want something a little more quiet and contemplative, when you’re taking a break from the festivities in Helen?  Take in our annual fall Arts In The Park.  Local artists, as well as those traveling from nearby metroplexes like Atlanta, fill the park with paintings, sculpture, pottery, music, and anything else they can dream up.

The Helen area has attracted a wide range of artisans, and our fall festivals are the perfect way tohelen cabin rentals show off their skills.  Even better, there’s always plenty of activities to keep adults and the young ones entertained.  It’s an Oktoberfest treat for the whole family!

You might even be able to take home your own one-of-a-kind Helen artwork to commemorate your visit!  It’ll look even better in your home than those beer steins you’ll probably collect while you’re here, and be a conversation piece for years to come.

5 – Staying In Comfort And Style In Your Own Luxury Cabin

Finally, here’s something you can get at a Helen Oktoberfest that you can’t find anywhere else:  Your own romantic cabin in the woods, surrounded by nature and the clearest air you (won’t) smell, with all the amenities you’d expect from a top-grade hotel!

The cabins around the southern Appalachians are the perfect place to rest and recuperate after a long day of festivities.  They’re only a few minutes outside of town, but still far enough away that the only noises you’ll hear are your woodland neighbors just beyond your door.

And when you’re relaxing in a hot tub, or making use of your outdoor cooking facilities, you’ll see nothing but trees, clear skies, and a totally unpolluted view of the sea of stars beyond.

Just see for yourself how well you could be living, while still surrounded by nature.
